Time to forgive and embrace Jo O’Meara

Jo O’Meara needs our forgiveness, our warmth and our help. She has been vilified more than enough.

Her breakdown and disheveled appearance on GMTV was not an act for our benefit - she’s a lost soul who can’t understand what’s happened to her in the few short weeks she was in Celebrity Big Brother.

This would be bad enough for her if she had emerged to the overall hostility with a support team around her but for her agent, Tony Fox, to die of a heart attack - and for O’Meara to hold herself to blame - is beyond endurance.

After all, her ‘crime’ was a few harsh words.

Even the most despicable criminals are less vilified. She doesn’t deserve what is now being heaped upon her by us, the public.

I was outraged at the bullying in the Celebrtiy Big Brother house - I even complained to Ofcom at the way the bullying was allowed to go unchecked. The catalyst was Jade Goody - of that, there is no doubt.

To keep this nonsense sense of outrage going beyond the confines of the Big Brother house is ridiculous. Not only that but it consigns the viewing public - those that want their pound of flesh - to the same category of bully that provoked such outrage in the first place.

Jo O’Meara has already paid a high emotional price for her harsh words - let’s not ask that she be completely destroyed or heap even more misery on her. She should be embraced, forgiven and helped through this extremely difficult time by the people who objected to the bullying in the first place - we, the viewers and the public.

Big Brother racist row rumbles on

The Big Brother racist row rumbles on after Jo O’Meara and Cleo Rocos eviction on Friday.

Somehow, there was a ‘technical error‘ in the lead up to the eviction that resulted in viewers being told to dial a number or text to save Shilpa Shetty when in fact it was to evict her.

Channel 4 had to restart the vote on Thursday with O’Meara polling a staggering 48% of the vote while 28% of viewers wanted Rocos to go. Jade Goody, now scurrying around trying to repair her heavily tarnished reputation, had the dubious honour of being one of the most hated housemates ever by polling a staggering 82% of votes the previous week.

Hertfordshire Police have contacted Goody and her mother Jackiey Budden, who was also on the show, with a view to interviewing the pair regarding allegations of racist behaviour inside the Celebrity Big Brother house.
